My name is Doug Edwards and I created Youth Worker On Fire to share the skills and techniques for working with adolescents that can make a positive difference in their lives. I’m talking with middle and high school teachers, administrators, coaches and community leaders about the importance of impacting the youth of today. Much of the advice I’m sharing is designed to help you be more effective as you reach out to today’s youth and hopefully avoid some of the mistakes I’ve made along the way.
I started in Campus Life, a para-church organization, and learned that youth work is tough and you need good training. I raised funds for my salary and learned to become a confidant to teachers and administrators as well as parents and students. One of the most important skills was how to keep getting back up even when things got tough. And they will get tough. That’s often when we learn the most valuable lessons.
We all have stories of how someone in our lives influenced us in a positive way and that’s what I want to share to help you thrive and endure. We should always treat our students like they’re a prince or princess. Each of these kids is special. My hope is that this would become a valuable resource as you make a difference in the lives of today’s young people.
